As a graduate of the Class of 1964, Lavernia Peters, the mayor of Formoso, was in one of the last two classes of Montrose School before it closed in 1965. Peters was born and raised 10 miles from Formoso and now resides in Formoso.

Peters leads the Formoso Garden Club which allows her to enjoy her hobby of gardening. Peters also enjoys chickens. She is a strong woman who has been divorced. Peters has no children. She and her roommate take care of a dog.
