It’s prom time! Area high schools have been hosting the annual proms the past two week-ends. Social media has been abuzz with photos of grandchildren, children and other students dressed up in their finest attire. Gone are the jeans with the cuts slit up and down the legs. Instead the girls wore the latest in full length gowns, with their hair done in the stylist hairdos and looking grown up. The guys wore the usual classy black, gray or white tuxedos, but some guys went all out wearing gold, silver or colorful dress jackets.

There were photos of the gals and guys as dates standing in front of the neat “ride” that took them to and from the prom. The vehicles were a variety of shiny pickups, classic or brand new automobiles, and even limos. Corsages still seem to be in fashion. Some were pinned on the dress and others worn around the wrists. The guys had matching flower boutonnieres pinned on their jacket lapels.

One photo was of a grandmother 17 years ago holding a baby granddaughter. In another photo she was now trying to get ahold of the same granddaughter by holding onto one of her legs, which showed she can no longer hold her as she once did. Another grandmother showed her granddaughter at about the age of four holding a plastic telephone to her ear, and a current photo of the granddaughter all dressed for prom talking on her cell phone. A mother posted a baby photo of her daughter with a current photo of the daughter in her prom dress.

I admit, I rushed to take photos of our granddaughter in her prom attire. I also admit that a tear or two could be seen as my husband and I watched as she and her date exchanged flowers and prepared to travel to their evening event to remember. It was a proud grandparent time for sure.

I know others enjoy seeing all the prom photos of the smiling and beautifully dressed students. Thanks for sharing.
