Cayce Barry is a freshman member of the Superior High School FFA chapter. She was in class one day where she germinated the idea of a petting zoo for the students of Superior Elementary School. She approached the chapter sponsor, Seth Going, with her thought and he gave her the green light.

Now came the process of turning the idea into reality. Barry had to set up a schedule, round up the animals and set up the event. She interacted with her fellow chapter members and they came through.

Last Tuesday was the big day. Classes were rotated in and out of the shop area at the high school. The shop had been converted into a petting zoo for the day. Small square bales of hay lined the perimeter. Pens were set up and the visitors were given ample opportunities for up close and personal time with a variety of animals.

Kiki Mikkelsen supplied two mini-horses.

Zac Corman and Carsyn Koeing brought along two calves each.

Jake and Zeke Meyer were the lamb wranglers

Todd Keifer was the goat master.

Brooklyn Grabast lent her Blue Heeler-Lab mix for the event. Laci Kirchhoff treated her Lab-Golden Retriever mix to a day out.

Mikynzie Hansen had chicks and ducks.

The hamsters from Mrs. Jameson's classroom were a popular attraction. The chapter members were in the shop at 7:15 a.m. to set up the event. They returned the animals to their home surroundings at the end of the school day. By all accounts, the zoo was a popular distraction from the regular school routine. There was talk of it becoming an annual event.
