My Crazy Life

April 29, 2021

I got the taxes done, and we got our refund. Yay! We paid off a debt that has been weighing on me for almost a year now. I can’t tell you how good that felt. We even had money left so we decided to see if we could get some things we need, like appliances. I’ve never had new appliances. After looking at them, I may never have new appliances! LOL! Oh, but you can make payments! No thank you! The only payment I want is my car payment. In actuality, I don’t want that one either.

George and I have been considering purchasing a king-size bed as well. Four years ago, we bought a queen-size bed that was supposed to be the perfect mattress. It was not! After a day of looking and trying out a large variety of mattresses, and a lot of sticker shock, we decided to go with a memory foam mattress topper. After a few nights sleeping on it, I think we made the right choice for our back and bank account. Plus, we don’t have to figure out how to fit a king-sized bed in our small bedroom.

We decided to take the extra money and put it in the savings account for purchasing the things we need to get our money pit fixed up and livable. I’ve picked out paint colors and I am working on coaxing the kids into coming home for a long weekend to help us paint the exterior. Although I am doubtful I will have any luck in that endeavor.

Friday, we said goodbye to our longtime, faithful friend Pepper. We adopted Pepper from the animal shelter just before Jacob’s first birthday. The shelter vet thought he was between one and two years of age at the time. They also thought he was a daschund; he was not. He was a mixed breed of a corgi and other cattle dog breeds. We believe he was almost 17 years old. In his younger years, he loved to play fetch and explore. He was always watching over the boys. He was a great babysitter, and he kept the family safe. I can’t count the snakes and other creepy crawlers that crazy dog killed. Rattlesnakes, spiders, even rats in the barn, were not safe. If they came near his family, they were dead.

I took him everywhere with me before old age made it difficult for him. He was my best friend. He had been with me through the hardest parts of my life. I find myself looking for him throughout the day. We laid him to rest in the backyard of our future forever home so he can continue to watch over us. X’s & O’s
