Contract let for Superior airport paying project

Superior Airport project bid approved

The Superior Airport Authority received bids Thursday for an upcoming improvement project at Superior Municipal Airport.The Federal Aviation Administration released funds for the paving of the airport access road and a lighted parking lot near the terminal building. The parking area will have 14 spaces and a handicapped accessible space. Curbing will be installed along the edges of the lot.

The authority board met Monday to approve the construction contract which was awarded to VanKirk Brothers of Sutton. They were the sole bidder on the project. The authority board is comprised of Luke Meyers, Carrie Jeffery, Lance Teachworth, Zach Dressman and Marty Pohlman.

The bid of $252,464.99 for Schedule One and Schedule Two was $45,000 less than the engineers estimate.

Schedule One includes the concrete access road and parking area. Schedule Two is an extension to another access road leading to the north hangars.

The engineering fees for the project are $114,742. Olsson Engineering, Lincoln, is the engineering firm for the project.

The project is funded through the Airport Improvement Project fund of the FAA and Federal CARES funds.

The project is expected to be completed in 25 working days after its starts.
