Memorial Day programs held at area cemeteries

 

Flags were flying on the cold Memorial Day morning at the Guide Rock Cemetery. Recent rains made the roads to and through some of the cemeteries muddy.

Monday's cloudy sky and cool temperature did not keep a sizeable contingent of area residents from attending the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Superior's east and west Evergreen Cemeteries honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

There was no sound system available at the east cemetery. Presenters relied on their normal speaking voices.

Gale Mikkelsen served as the master of ceremonies. Robert Hopkins, pastor of Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, offered the opening prayer.
