Janet Ione Parsons was born Oct. 13, 1936, at the home of her parents, Clarence A. and Florence (Sweet) Jensby, Hardy. She was baptized at the Union Church in Hardy by Rev. Gleim. She attended grades 1 through 8 at Hardy and grades 9 through 12 at Sinclair Rural High School, Lovewell, Kan., graduating in 1954.

At 13-years-old, a major 4-H project for Janet was assisting with and keeping records of the family's total remodeling of a farm house southeast of Webber in 1949 and 1950. The family moved there when the renovations were complete.
