Lula Hutchcraft

 

Lula Marie Hutchcraft, the daughter of Jules and Elba (Sonnier) Landry, was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Kaplan, La. She died June 30, 2021, at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 9 months, 2 days.

She married Charlie Ray Matthews, Sr., on June 11, 1951, at Las Cruces, N.M., while he was serving in the military. They had five children. Throughout their lives together they lived in El Paso and Texas City, Texas, where their twin daughters were born. The family then moved to Trumbull, Neb., in 1961, living there for 23 years. They also lived in Maurice, La., before making their home in Superior. In her working career she was a salesclerk in shipping and receiving, sales clerk at Target, Pamida, Tempo's, J.M. McDonald's and Allen's.

Lu enjoyed dancing and going to dances. She liked to cook and shared many of her favorite recipes in the yearly Tribune addition. She enjoyed her grandchildren, time with them and spoiling them. They raised granddaughter, Natashia, in their home from when she was only 14 months old until she turned almost 12. On Sept. 26, 2017, at Hebron, Neb., she was united in marriage to Robert Hutchcraft.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie on April 11, 2007; daughter, Patricia Ann; grandson, John Hartlett; a brother, Murphy Landry; a sister, Jane Simon; son-in-law, Gene Hartlett; and a great-granddaughter, Harlie Weber.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; three daughters, Darlene Ziegler and husband, Everette, and Marlene Harlett, all of Superior, and Charlene Wilson of St. Cloud, Minn .; one son, Charles "Ray" Matthews; 16 grandchildren, Clinton Bunting, Michelle Brooks, Jerod Bunting, Jodi Bunting, Josh Hartlett, Jesse Hartlett, Sheila Carol, Tonya Smith, Tjida Miller, Dana Falliox, Natasha Weber, Keidra Matth ews, Danyelle Matthews, Melissa Roberts, Tiffany Druba and TJ Druba; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Her graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior with Pastor Mike Sander officiating.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior.

Memorials are suggested to go to the family.
