The Superior Chamber of Commerce Summer Music Series that was popular in the Pre-COVID-19 days returns to the local event calendar this week.

Currently music programs are planned to be held at the Fourth Street Square in July, August and September.

The first will be this Friday when Don Richmond will be coming from Kearney.

While area residents may not be acquainted with him and his music, many are acquainted with daughter, Emily Ray, and grandson, Jack. Both are Superior area residents.

Richmond has been playing a guitar and writing music for more than 60 years. A retired school teacher, he often is asked to play in Kearney area coffee houses and restaurants.

He plans to present a program mixed with songs he has written and ones popularized by professional entertainers including the Kingston Trio, the Eagles and Elvis Presley. Some will be current, and others older.

For 40 years, Richmond taught English and history in the Elm Creek school system and served as a basketball and cross country coach.

Food truck and beverage vendors are expected to set up shop at the square starting at 5 p.m. The music program will begin at 7 p.m.

This year's second concert is planned for August 20. The next day the chamber will sponsor "Homegrown." It will be part of a special patriotic show being arranged at the Superior Auditorium. In anticipation of these events, the Superior City Council has agreed to restrict access to Fourth Street between Central and Commercial and Commercial Street between Third and Fifth on Aug. 21. Parking spaces in front of the Fourth Street Square and the adjoining alley will be blocked for the concert series programs.
