Co. Board ponders fate of county's first large building

Nuckolls County Board

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for a regularly scheduled meeting Monday at the county courthouse in Nelson. All three commissioners were present.

Jeff Wagner, the county highway superintendent, Cindy Buescher, executive secretary and Jim Bolte, foreman, were present to answer questions at the public hearing for the one and six year highway and bridge review. No members of the public attended.

The board denied a levy request from the Davenport Rural Fire District. This is a procedural matter to allow the district to levy funds.

The board will discuss the possible demolition of the original Nuckolls County jail building which was constructed in 1878.. The project would entail razing the original building and constructing a new wall to allow the use of the addition to the building which formerly housed the sheriff’s office before their move to another building.

The board will meet at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, for their next regularly scheduled meeting.
