Semi does not stop at stop sign north of Guide Rock

 

A semi truck loaded with cattle headed north was demolished Monday at the corner of Highway 136 and Highway 78 at the Country Corner intersection north of Guide Rock. The semi truck driver was life flighted with serious injuries. A Landmark Implement pickup headed west, was involved in the accident. The driver received only cuts. The accident happened during the noon hour.

On Tuesday at approximately 12:36 p.m., the Webster County Sheriff's Department responded to the intersection of Highway 136 and Highway 78 for a reported traffic collision. A Sabetha, Kan., semi hauling cattle and driven by Jessey Hartter, 25, was northbound out of Guide Rock on Highway 78. The driver of the semi disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and ran

into an eastbound Landmark pickup truck hauling a trailer on Highway 136. The Landmark pickup was driven by Jason Trew, 41, of Kearney, Neb.

Both drivers suffered injuries and were taken to Webster County Community Hospital where Jesse Hartter was then life-flighted to Lincoln, Neb. The collision is being investigated by Webster County Sheriff Department and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Patrons at the Country Corner convenience store said the semi flew into the air. A number of cattle were killed on site. Others had to be put down.
