Mike Beaumont

 


Joseph Michael Beaumont,77, died June 24, 2021, at his home in Wichita. He was born Jan. 12, 1944, to Joseph and Mary (Ally) Beaumont, in Creston, Iowa. His nickname in childhood was “Micky.” He attended grade school in Creston until fourth grade in 1953, when the family moved to Superior. His family came to manage the new Brown’s Shoe Fit store, where Mike also worked during high school. His parents said he was a good salesman. Mike graduated with the Superor High School Class of 1962.

In 1963, Mike entered the U.S. Air Force. It was during his time serving in Olathe, Kan., he met and married Dana Johnson. They had three children: Todd, Michelle and Brandon. They lived in Olathe, Superior, Huron, S.D., Emporia, and Kearney. Mike worked at Ideal Market and Superior Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Superior. He worked for Brown’s Shoe Fit in Huron, Emporia and Kearney. Later he worked for Rockwell Industries in Kearney.


After Mike and Dana divorced, he met and married Marie (Starr) Gibbons in January 1982. Mike and Marie and her three daughters, Michele, Carrie and Shannon, moved to Tulsa, Okla., for a short time before settling in Wichita, where he was employed by Myers Brothers in sales until his retirement.

During his time in Kearney, Mike enjoyed time with his children at the neary Platte River, fishing, swimming and camping. Later, he enjoyed time with family, vacations and playing extra rounds of golf. He liked walking at the mall and coffee time with friends. Mike was a prankster with a quirky sense of humor never far from the surface. He remained positive during his battle with COPD and never lost his sense of humor.


Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary.

He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Marie, Wichita; brother, Rodger, Oak Harbor, Wash .: and sister, Mary, Superior; children: Todd, Anamosa, Iowa, Michelle, Omaha, and Brandon, Ashland, Neb .; stepdaughters, Michele, Kearney, Carrie, Wichita, and Shannon, Valley Center, Kan .; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren.

Per Mike’s wishes, cremation was chosen. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021, at the United Methodist Church, Superior, with the Rev. Natalie Faust officiating.
