3 eight-foot culverts will replace bridge near Ruskin

Nuckolls County Board

August 5, 2021

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting, Monday, at the county courthouse in Nelson.

Jeff Wagner, county highway superintendent, Cindy Buescher, executive secretary and Jim Bolte, county road department foreman, were present for the letting of the bid for the replacement of a bridge south of Ruskin. The bridge will be replaced with three eight by 40 feet culverts. The culverts come with head walls installed. The low bid was $72,020. The contract was awarded to Contech with an Oct. 11 or earlier delivery date.

Rural fire district levy increase requests from Lawrence and Nelson were denied. This is a procedural process which allows the districts to raise funds.

The board discussed the demolition of the former county jail and sheriff’s office. Carrie Miller, county clerk, will draw up specs for contractors. The board is looking to demolish the old jail building. They hope to build a wall between the old building and the addition. This will allow the space in the addition to be used by other county government entities.

The board will meet for a regularly scheduled meeting at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16.
