School bells will ring Aug. 12

Youngsters wondering what happened to summer vacation

August 5, 2021

Returning Superior Elementary staff gathered earlier this summer and painted "Bee Kind" ceiling tiles for the interior front entrance of the school. The hall theme decor encourages students to "Bee" lots of positive things. Returning staff include Lauira Baird, Rachel Renz, Diane Kile, Anne-Marie Ohmstede, Dayna Henry, Tricia Kulmann, Jake Nanne, Courtney Baker, Tierney Casper, Sara Fuller, Luke Chadwell, Jennifer Utecht and Rebecca Fullerton.

The Superior Public School hallways glisten and a sense of excitement radiates throughout the school. All teachers report for duty Monday morning and students check-in Thursday to start the 2021-22 school year.

Visual changes will greet elementary students. The office and hallways are decorated with brightly colored bees, hives and honey combs to reflect the building's theme, "Bee Kind," for this school year.

A collage of ceiling tiles just inside the main elementary entrance may be the first thing they see. During the summer the "kids club" and staff, librarians and last year's teachers who are returning to the elementary school made the colorful decorations.

One message reads "Anyone who thinks they're too small to make a difference has never met a honey bee."

Another message hanging from a door reads "What Can I Bee?" Below is a honey comb with these words: "good student, a friend, honest, nice, respectful, good teacher, kind, a learner, loving, caring and a hard worker."

Ceiling tile messages include some of the following phrases: "Bee happy, thank you for beeing here, bee yourself, it's going to bee a great year and always bee kind."

At the beginning of school, there will be an assembly with a local bee keeper and all classrooms will be reading "Be Kind" by Pat Zietlow Miller. Throughout the years, students and staff will engage in various activities to promote kindness within the school and community.
