David V. Anderson, 81, of Burr Oak, Kansas, died at his residence on Friday, Aug.13. On Jan. 15, 1940, David was born in Huntington Park, Calif., to Verner and Edith (Lewis) Anderson.

David was a 1957 graduate of Huntington Park High. He then received his associate degree from Orang Coast Junior College. David went on to receive his bachelor's degree in physical education from Denver University in 1962.

David married Patricia Ann Byers on Aug. 29, 1965, at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. On Aug. 29, of this year, David and Pat would have celebrated their 56th year of marriage. To this union, two children were born, Stephen and Gail.

David received his master's of education degree from Colorado State University. He taught for 33 years in the Denver Public School System, retiring in 1996. After retirement, he moved back to the family farm near Burr Oak, where he started a swathing and bailing business, Anderson Hay Service.

He was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Emory Clemons American Legion Post 263, and the Jewell County Masonic Lodge 11. David was a US Veteran serving in the United States Naval Reserve. He was honorably discharged in 1963.

David is survived by his wife, Pat of the home; son, Steven Anderson, Burr Oak; daughter, Gail Baca (Wayne), Brighton, Colo.; two grandchildren, Gunner and Jaycie Prim; a brother, Paul Anderson, Downey, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Jackie Frisbie (Jerry) Winston, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verner and Edith.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 19) at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at Burr Oak United Methodist Church, with Pastor Les Ellis and Rod Rose officiating.

Burial will follow in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Jewell County Masonic Lodge 11. The Emory Clemons American Legion Post 263 will perform the military honors.
