Q: Does Hell have to be eternal? Couldn’t it just be a temporary ‘time out’?
A: There are two reasons why an eternal punishment for sin is necessary. The first reason that hell is an eternal punishment is because sin does eternal damage. We like to justify our sins and cast them in a harmless light. But the reality is all sin is an eternal offense against God (Gen. 4:10; Matthew 5:21-48).
