September 9, 2021

Mike Ramsey, rural mail carrier for southern Jewell County, retired Aug. 31 after 37 years of delivering mail in all kinds of weather. He was a substitute carrier for four years before taking the route full-time.

His family hosted a retirement party for Mike on Sept. 6 at the Randall Community Center. Those included Chad and Jenny Ramsey and  family, Sedgwick; Chris Ramsey and girls, and his friend, Kristen, Great Bend; Caleb and Kaylene Ramsey family, Randall; and Mike’s wife, Jill.

Many people from Randall, Jewell, Ionia and from out of county  attended to wish him well and to thank him for his diligent service through the years. One family member mentioned it was quite a shin-dig.

Presiding at the refreshment table were two granddaughters, Adley Ramsey, Sedgwick, and Brooklyn Ramsey, Great Bend. Welcoming guests was Gentry Ramsay, Great Bend.

The family had prepared a table with his various awards for service, for safe driving and other noted awards earned through the years. His route encompassed well over 100 miles daily. When asked about the completion of this position, Mike said, “I won’t miss the driving, but I will miss the people.”
