SHS football wins at Fairbury

A change of scenery was just what the Superior Wildcat football team needed. The team traveled to Fairbury, Friday, and returned home with a 42-24 win against the Fairbury Jeffs.

Superior jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead. The Jeffs chipped away at the lead with Superior holding a 22-18 lead at the half. The teams traded touchdowns and failed extra points efforts in the third period as Superior carried a 28-24 lead into the final quarter. The Wildcat defense stepped up and held Fairbury scoreless. The offense did their part by scoring 14 points and Superior evened its season record at 1-1.

Dane Miller completed one of his four pass attempts for 43 yards and a touchdown to Jacob Meyer.

Clayton Morris carried the ball 13 times for 87 yards and three touchdowns. Miller kept the ball 11 times for 98 yards and a touchdown. James Love picked up 12 yards with his six carries. Tyler Everhart covered 15 yards with three carries.

Christian Avalos averaged 48 yards for his seven kickoffs. He scored four extra points via kicks.

Anders Webber picked up eight solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Morris accumulated seven solo tackles and had four assisted tackles. Jordan Brown collected six solo tackles and six assists. Luke Jameson accounted for six solo shots and an assisted tackle. Seth Schnakenberg accounted for fieve solo tackles and two assists. Everhart made four solo tackles and assisted with four. Miller grabbed four solo tackles and had an assisted tackle. Ty Boller contributed three solo tackles and an assisted tackle to the Wildcats defensive effort. Ashton Grassman snagged two solo tackles and two assisted tackles. Meyer made two solo tackles. Meyer had one interception.

Superior hosts the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines at Brodstone Memorial Field, Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
