SHS volleyball has win streak snapped, begins anew

The Superior High School volleyball team had their eight-game winning streak snapped by the Sutton Mustangs at Superior last Tuesday. Sutton swept Superior, 22-25, 18-25 and 17-25, in three sets.

The Wildcats wasted no time in shaking off the loss as they swept Blue Hill, 25-21 and 25-22, in two sets at the Superior High School gymnasium Saturday. They notched another win with a three-set, 26-24,17-25 and 25-16, win over the Alma Cardinals to sweep their triangular match and set off on a two-game win streak and a 10-2 season record.

The Wildcats entertained the Fairbury Jeffs at Superior, Tuesday, with match results unavailable at press time.

Shayla Meyer topped the Wildcat kill list against Sutton with 11. Cailyn Barry, Teegan Duncan and Madison Heusinkvelt hammered down three kills each. Brooklyn Grabast posted two kills. Atlee Kobza had a kill. Duncan scored with an ace. Barry, Grabast, Meyer and Sadie Rempel had an ace apiece. Barry made a block. Kobza handled nine digs. Meyer added six digs. Barry and Rempel produced five digs each for the Wildcats. Duncan recorded three digs. Grabast had a dig.


Meyer topped the kill chart against Blue Hill with 11. Duncan and Barry added six kills each. Heusinkvelt was good for three kills. Ella Gardner had a kill. Gardner slapped through four aces. Duncan scored with two aces. Duncan recorded a block. Kobza pumped up 11 digs. Duncan popped up eight digs. Gardner slid for six digs. Meyer came up with four digs. Heusinkvelt had a dig.

Meyer led the Wildcats with 29 kills against Alma. Duncan contributed eight kills. Heusinkvelt nailed five kills. Gardner had three kills. Barry produced three aces. Meyer dropped through two aces. Duncan had an ace. Gardner recorded a block. Meyer accounted for 16 digs. Barry and Gardner loaded up with eight digs each. Kobza slung up three digs. Duncan had a dig.


The Wildcats travel to Hastings, Saturday, for the Adams Central Invitational. Superior returns to Hastings, Tuesday, for the opening round of the Hastings St. Cecila Invitational.
