Jewell's Annual Corn Show is just around the corner

September 30, 2021

It is Show Time! Corn Show time! Beginning on Monday, and running through Sunday, Oct. 10, there will be many things to do in Jewell.

Monday sees the beginning of the “A ‘Maize’ing Corn Race.” Just check the Jewell City Office door or the Jewell Chamber of Commerce Facebook page for clues that can lead you to the hidden ear of corn. Each day at 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday (or until the corn is found) a new clue will be posted. If you decipher the clues and are the first to locate the corn – the $100 prize is yours!

Wednesday evening the booths and exhibits start going up in the Jewell Community Center. There is also a set-up time on Thursday morning from 8 to 11a.m. Remember there is a junior division for exhibitors under 14 years of age. The exhibits and booths must be in place by 11a.m. on Thursday. Everything comes down at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Booths should reflect the “Dream Big” theme of this year’s Corn Show. There is room for all kinds of exhibits- corn of course - but also milo, wheat, sunflowers and soybeans. Think you have the tallest feed around? Bring in a stalk and put it on display.

You have a great flower garden or vegetable garden? Show off your blooms, plants and produce. Lots of categories for vegetables and the Jewell Garden Club will welcome your floral exhibit. Enter floral arrangements in various categories including “American Dream,” “Dreaming of a White Christmas,” “Sweet Dreams” and others. Check out the Corn Show ads for detailed information on specimens and arrangements.

Exhibits are on display on Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please remember everything comes down at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday evening get those golf carts, ATVs and mowers running and head out to Lake Emerson for the 6 p.m. start of the “PAIR-A-DICE” Ride. Follow a route around Jewell and roll those dice to win a cash prize.

Friday isn’t over – Grab-N-Go at the Old Jewell High School will feature Bourbon’s bierocks, cheeseburgers or hot ham and cheese meals. Get supper anytime from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Then comes the big day – Saturday. The exhibits open at 8 a.m. in the Jewell Community Center with the Jewell County Health Department available to give flu shots. Just have your insurance or Medicare card.

The Jewell Corn Show Stampede will also start at 8 a.m. right in front of the Guarantee State Bank. You can walk, run or bike in this 5K event.

These events just seem to start the day, the Star Search in or around Maag Park will have already begun! There will be colored stars hidden all over in and around the park. Those from 1 to 18 who are sharp-eyed and good searchers will receive a prize from a business for each star! Good luck!

“Show Off Your Wheels” is back for its eighth year. Check out all types of “wheels” – motorcycles, cars, pick-ups, antique farm machinery and tractors. Look for the show on the west side of Maag Park beginning at 9 a.m.
