Rose Janda and family celebrate 100th Birthday

One Hundred years . . .

Ten decades . . .

Five generations . . . .

. . . Considered by most people a considerable length of time. For Rose Janda of Lawrence, Saturday, Sept. 25 was her birthday and the fact the birth occurred Sept. 25, 1921 made it an important day, but not so much out of the ordinary.

Rose was able to celebrate her 100th birthday Saturday with most of her family and friends in Lawrence. A family dinner was held at noon at the American Legion Hall and that was followed with an open house gathering of friends and family, also at the Legion Hall. A large crowd was able to wish Rose a Happy Birthday greeting and well wishes.

Rose has lived her life in the Lawrence area. Most of her life was spent on the farm with her husband, John, until their retirement when they moved into Lawrence.

Special guests at the event was Rose's brother, John Hubl (incidentally, also born on Sept. 25, but nine years later) and sister-in-law, Frances Hubl.

Rose is the mother of seven children: Robert, Patricia, Ellen, Ronald, Stephen, Thomas and Laurie. At the present time, there are five generations in this branch of the Janda family: Rose; seven children; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The weekend celebration ended on Sunday with the family attending Sunday morning Mass at Sacred Heart church in Lawrence and gathering at the home of Rose in Lawrence. The gathering was reminded of Rose's advice for a long life given on the occasion of her 99th birthday. It was as follows:

"Hang in there and do your best and have faith in the Lord."
