Raiders pounded 6-75 by Kenesaw

September 30, 2021

The L/N offensive production this season has been pretty good. However, last Friday night, Kenesaw had the offense pretty well stopped. In this picture, Toby Kotinek looks for running room during the game and is confronted by two Kenesaw defenders.

Ouch . . .

That hurt . . .

Go play one of the best Class D-2 teams in the state and you need your best effort and performance. And . . . that didn't happen for the L-N Raiders Friday during their trip to Kenesaw to play a team in the top four (NSAA point standings) in the State Class D-2 rankings.

To simplify the report of the game, a person could say the Raiders were taken advantage of in the kicking game and gave Kenesaw "short fields" for most of the game and they knew what to do with that advantage. The score by quarter:

L-N 0 6 0 0 = 6

Kenesaw 16 31 14 14 = 75

The Raiders played their best in the first quarter and few seconds of the second period. Kenesaw scored on their first possession of the game as a short kick-off gave them a mid-field start. After exchanging punts, Kenesaw intercepted a pass and had a start on the Raider 27 yard line which they converted into eight more points. However, after Kenesaw's second TD, L-N put together a 65 yard scoring drive that came just after the second period started. The drive included a couple of Kucera to Tyson Kotinek passes and the TD came on a 32 yard Kucera to Erik Wheeland pass play. The PAT pass failed and the score was 6-16.

Up to this point in the game L-N had actually kept pace with Kenesaw, except on the scoreboard. L-N had more offensive yardage, but from here on, those short fields given to Kenesaw doomed the Raiders. On five of the next seven Kenesaw possession, their average starting point was the Raider 30 yard line.

Much of the last half of the game was played by the Reserves of each team, but L-N had no better luck at the end than they had at the beginning.
