Something for Everyone – the Jewell Corn Show

Today, Thursday the 7th of October, the 2021 Jewell Corn Show really gets started. The exhibits are on display in the Jewell Community Center today from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. They can be seen Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. or Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Remember everything comes down at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday evening get those golf carts, ATVs and mowers running and head out to Lake Emerson for the 6 p.m. start of the “PAIR-A-DICE” Ride. Follow a route around Jewell and roll those dice to win a cash prize.

Friday isn’t over – Grab-N-Go at the old Jewell High School will feature Bourbon’s bierocks, cheeseburgers or hot ham and cheese meals. Get supper anytime from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Then comes the big day – Saturday. The exhibits open at 8 a.m. in the Jewell Community Center with the Jewell County Health Department available to give flu shots. Just have your insurance or Medicare card.

The Jewell-Corn Show Stampede will also start at 8 a.m. right in front of the Guarantee State Bank. You can walk, run or bike in this 5K event.

These events just seem to start the day, the Star Search in or around Maag Park will have already begun! There will be colored stars hidden all over in and around the park. Those from 1 to 18 who are sharp-eyed and good searchers will receive a prize from a business for each star! Good luck!

“Show Off Your Wheels” is back for its eighth year. Check out all types of “wheels” – motorcycles, cars, pick-ups, antique farm machinery and tractors. Look for the show on the west side of Maag Park beginning at 9 a.m.

Also starting at 9 a.m. there will be vendors in downtown Jewell. A variety of items for sale and they will be open until 2:30 p.m.

Next up is the parade! First at 10:15 a.m. is the Children’s Parade. This parade lines up at the corner of Custer and Delaware. The rest of the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Check-in is at the old high school.

Immediately after the parade head for the Jewell Fire Station and a BBQ meal. After the BBQ check out the area north of Maag Park and find hand corn shelling, corn grinding and a sorghum press.

At noon, on the north side of Maag Park, watch or enter the second Corn Show Corn Hole Tournament. There is $20 entry fee and guaranteed prizes for the top two teams.

There are plans for children too. From Noon until 2:30 p.m., Maag Park will there have Fun Cycles, Banana Bikes, a dozen different games plus pop, funnel cakes, cotton candy and snow cones.

Something new will be an open house at the Jewell Apartments from 2 to 4 p.m. The Jewell Apartments are located at 107 S Lincoln. There will also be an open house at the apartments on Sunday from 1 to 3p.m.

Starting at 3:30 p.m., be at the old Jewell High School to join the road rally. There will be an entry fee and $10 prize money. Later, from 4 to 12 a.m., there will be a beer garden located near the fire station.

The day is not over. The Jewell Fire Department will be having a hamburger and hot dog meal at the Jewell Fire Station from 5 to 11 p.m. A free will donation will get you into the Saturday Night Program – with ice cream – at 7 p.m. in the Jewell Community Center.

End Saturday evening with Tim Anthony and the Anamals. They will be playing for a street dance from 8 to 11 p.m. near the Jewell Fire Station.

The Corn Show ends on Sunday with a soup dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Jewell Community Center. The final event is the open house at the Jewell Apartments from 1 to 3 p.m.
