Jarosik first, but Red Raiders 2nd at conference meet

IMPROVEMENT . . . Sometimes judging how much a team improves over a season is a tough job to do. Even in running events such as a cross country event, differences in the course lay-out can make a significant difference. However, when everyone on the team cuts seconds to minutes off their times, a person can be pretty sure everyone is getting better. And then, to have three team members earn a medal and the team place second in the conference meet, you know everyone has worked hard and has improved over the season. Members of the Lawrence-Nelson–Sandy Creek Red Raider cross country team include (from left) Rowan Jarosik, Itzamna Diaz, Jacob Hagemeier, Logan Menke, Zach Brennfoerder, Theo Kathman and Sean Heaton.

One point . . .

That was the difference between the first place winner and the second place runner-up at the Twin Valley Conference Cross Country Meet last Thursday held at Red Cloud.

The Co-op team between Lawrence-Nelson and Sandy Creek performed their best at the meet and Coach Fox noted: "many of the boys ran personal best times. It was and exciting day, Rowan earned his first ever first place medal. Logan tied his career best finish by finishing third and Sean ran an incredible race and received his first career medal."

Three members of the Lawrence-Nelson–Sandy Creek Red Raider Cross Country team medaled at the TVC Meet Thursday in Red Cloud. They are (from left) Rowan Jarosik, first; Logan Menke, third; and Sean Heaton, tenth.

The boys were second out the six team competing. No girls ran at this Meet.

This reporter doesn't have back records, but this was maybe the best a Red Raider team has ever done with three runners earning medals. Some of the times were two to four minutes faster than previous Meets. Individual results:

1st – Rowan Jarosik, 18:08 medal.

3rd – Logan Menke, 18:39 medal.

10th – Sean Heaton, 20:13 medal.

16th – Jacob Hagemeier, 20:55.

25th – Theo Kathman, 23:20.

29th – Itzamna Diaz, 24:17.

30th – Zach Brennfoerder, 25:08.

This week the Red Raiders will compete at the Southern Nebraska Conference Meet at Hebron.
