Loyce Jeffery

Loyce Leanne Jeffery, 89, the daughter of Verda (Fogo) and Emmett Lewis was born on Dec. 28, 1931, at Burr Oak, Kan. She died at her home in Northbranch, Kan., on Oct. 5, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of the Northbranch and Burr Oak communities.

Loyce received her formal education at the Burr Oak schools, graduating in 1949. On Nov. 25, 1951, she was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Kermit C. Jeffery, at the Northbranch Friends Church. They made their home on the family farm at

Northbranch and were blessed with four children - Mark, Juel, Jenelle and Jennifer.

Loyce worked as the Burr Oak High School secretary during the time Kermit was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. Being a homemaker, her time was spent raising four children and traveling with Kermit on the family harvesting crew where she provided countless meals. She enjoyed attending all her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, traveling and rocking and singing to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As Mom and Grandmother, Loyce traveled to all her children’s homes to help with each new grandbaby. She had 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Loyce loved helping others by her service at the church; she served on various committees at the church including the Women’s Missionary Society, she often made food for funerals and church dinners, she taught Sunday school, and she took great pride in keeping the church clean by serving as the janitor for many years.

Preceding Loyce in death were her parents; sister, Lonnie Buckley; and infant sister, Judee Sue Lewis.

Left to treasure her memory are husband, Kermit Jeffery, Northbranch; brother, Bud Lewis, Castle Rock, Colo.; sister ,Jerre Mann, Littleton, Colo.; son, Mark Jeffery, Northbranch; daughters, Juel Hughes, Royal, Neb., Jenelle Jeffery, Littleton, Colo., Jennifer Woods, Overland Park, Kan.; and grandchildren.

Her funeral was at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 at the Northbranch Friends Church with Pastor Jon Harkness officiating. Interment was at

the Northbranch Cemetery.
