Football schedules change from year to year and the 2021 schedule for the L-N Raiders has been a tough one. L-N played Osceola last Friday and lost to the tune of 14-52. L-N has a 3-4 season record to date and those four losses are all to teams ranked in the top of their respective classes. It was a tough game to watch as most everything the Raiders used for success this season did not work well. The score by quarter:

The Raiders were not without an offense, it just seemed that whenever they got an offense going, things went wrong. Things like turnovers, a very un-Raider thing this season. Osceola scored on three Raider turnovers, one fumble and two pass interceptions and that’s something that hasn’t been done to date this season.

The game started with L-N on offense and they did pick up a first down before the first of those interceptions happened and it was run back for a TD. Osceola scored on a 58 yard run and again on a short run as the first period ended for an 18-0 first period score.

In the second period Osceola scored early in the period and again late in the period, one on a 46 yard run and the other on a fumble recovery returned for 50 yards and a TD. In between those scores L-N did generate some offense driving more than 40 yards on one possession. The Raider defense stopped an Osceola drive on their own six yard line.

The third period beginning was similar to the first period. Osceola picked off a Raider pass and returned it 25 yards for a TD. After that, however, L-N had luck and scored just before the end of the period on a 44 yard Kucera to Wheeland pass. The PAT failed and the score was 6-46.

Osceola scored early in the fourth period but the Raiders responded with a 56 yard drive to score when Kucera found running room for an 18 yard TD burst. Bargen ran the PAT to account for the final points for L-N.

Over the years (including this year) L-N has faced players that one Raider fan labeled a “difference maker.” The Osceola quarterback was such a player who scored most all of their points and picking off the interceptions.

This week the boys play BDS. Last year’s state champions are not the powerhouse they have been in recent years, but they still are a good team. Should be another interesting game for the last game of the regular season.
