Babies are a sure sign of positivity and gives one a deep hearted good feeling about the future. I received such a feeling when I got to hold my great-great niece recently. My great niece and her husband live a distance away so we don’t get to see them often but whenever they come this way to make a family visit, I hopefully get to see them and their dear baby.

The first time getting to hold her was when she was only a month old. On this visit she is now five-months-old. With a green and gold polka dotted dress on, little white socks with gold trim, and of course a gold colored banded bow at the top of her precious head, she stole the hearts of everyone at this family event, me included.

When it came my time to hold her, she provided me with a winning smile, a few coos and a snuggle. Later, when the parents were ready to leave, I asked if I could hold her one more time, but was warned she was getting sleepy and might be in a bad mood. As I cradled her in my arms, I began to make the usual grandmotherly rocking motions and quietly humming away, she soon gave way and closed her eyes in a peaceful sleep. It was just what I needed at that time and place. It was a feel good feeling all grandmothers, great-grandmothers, aunts and even great-great aunts understand.

Friends of ours recently became parents for the first time. As I see photos of the little one on a social media, I ‘m anxious to meet her. A recent photo of her this week brought laughter. There sat the little one in her daddy’s arms with a pretty banded bow at the top of her head and their dog beside them also wearing a bow on it’s head. But the best part of the photo was Daddy. He also was wearing a bow on his head. He usually sports a cowboy hat. A special daddy-daughter time there.

I enjoy attending baby showers. Not too long ago, I attended one for a cousin who is expecting her first child. She is part of a family custom harvesting operation. All summer, while expecting, she operated a combine. Her shower was hosted by her sister-in-law who is also expecting a baby. The Boyles family is growing for sure! Everyone was asked to bring a children’s book. It was so special as the baby-to-be’s late grandfather had made a small wooden book shelf that was used to display the books. When asked if the guest mother-to-be would continue going on the family harvest run, she was quick to answer she certainly would, as the baby’s daddy had grown up that way. I can’t wait to meet these two babies soon to join the family.

I feel blessed to have seven granddaughters, but they are not babies anymore. Though I’m proud of them now, I sure miss those dear baby days. Thankfully there are other babies, parents are willing to share, to fill those much needed baby times.
