The Rock Hills students in grades eight through 12 have had a new agricultural teacher since 2020. Jenna Langer is from Superior where she was born. She is still a Superior resident.She was raised in northern Jewell County and was active in Jewell County 4-H.

Langer went to high school at Superior, followed by two years at Cloud County Community College, where she studied ag education. Langer went on to Kansas State where she received her bachelor's degree. Langer plans to start her master's degree from K-State in January.

Langer has many hobbies in her free time. These include riding horses, reading, time with family and friends, going to rodeos and traveling. She also likes having time with Maggie, her rescue dog. Langer has been with her boyfriend whom she met in high school for 10 years.

Langer started her current career when she was 22 and was a student teacher. Before working in a school setting, Langer waitressed and worked at the college.

Langer enjoys living in Superior because she is back in a community where she knows everybody and is close to her family.

Langer said the favorite part of her job is traveling with the students to events and contests. The hardest part for her is juggling teaching full time, being the FFA advior and planning those events. She knew she wanted to be in agriculture, but she never thought she'd be a teacher. In doing agricultural events, Langer realized she enjoyed working with students. "I had to accept that I needed to teach high school," Langer said.

Langer is responsible for the FFA events, student supervised agricultural experiences, preparing and taking students to CDE and LDE (contests) and classroom instruction.

Langer said that COVID cut her student teaching in half in the first semester, and also in the first semester she taught, the FFA and ag classes didn't get to travel to any events.

Langer is inspired by giving opportunities to students who normally don't have them. She is also inspired when she sees students motivated and working hard for something and it paying off in the end. "I like seeing them be successful," Langer said. She aspired to definitely grow the agriculture program. Langer also aspires to continue learning for herself so she can provide better opportunities for the students.

"You have to be passionate about teaching," Langer said when giving advice for those wanting to work in her field. At the end of the day, it has to be about the students and what they're gaining with it."
