L-N volleyball eyes path to state tourney

The Lawrence-Nelson High School volleyball team closed out their 2021 regular season at the Twin Valley Conference Tournament against Franklin, Tuesday, with match results unavailable at press time.

It was a busy week for the Raiders. They downed the Blue Hill Bobcats, at Blue Hill, last Tuesday, 19-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-20 and 15-13, for the four-set win. Lawrence-Nelson took down the High Plains Community Storm, 25-27, 25-23 and 25-20, at Nelson Thursday. The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles swept the Raiders, 19-25 and 17-25, in two sets at the Raiders triangular match at Nelson, Thursday. The Deshler Dragons swept the Raiders, 15-25 and 21-25, in two sets at Franklin Saturday in the opening round match of the Twin Valley Conference Tournament. Lawrence-Nelson bounced back with a two-set, 10-25 and 23-25, win over Franklin. Franklin and the Raiders met again Tuesday, at Franklin, with match results unavailable at press time.

The Raiders have been playing the majority of their matches against higher classification schools which has impacted their wildcard point standing. Their only avenue to the state tournament is through sub-district and district qualifying.

Emma Epley was the lead killer, with 18, against Blue Hill. Kara Menke posted 10 kills for the match. Aleah Heikkinen tallied eight kills. Sydney Biltoft added four kills. Kylie Beard and Katelyn Mazour landed three kills apiece. Elsa Jorgensen nailed two kills. Emily Troudt had a kill. Epley lashed through three aces. Beard and Heikkinen each scored with an ace. Biltoft had two blocks while Heikkenen and Menke had one each. Jorgensen came up with 25 digs. Heikkinen collected 15 digs. Epley whipped up 13 digs. Hanna Skinner bobbed up 12 digs. Mazour had nine digs. Beard and Troudt were credited with four digs apiece. Biltoft made three digs.

Menke killed 12 times against High Plains. Epley came through with 11 kills. Heikkinen joined in with six kills. Biltoft and Mazour added three kills apiece. Troudt had a kill. Heikkinen slashed through two aces. Epley had an ace. Skinner collected 14 digs for the Raiders. Heikkinen went for 13 digs. Jorgensen was good for 12 digs. Epley jammed up nine digs. Beard handled four digs. Mazour slid in for three digs. Biltoft and menke had two digs each.

Epley factored in five kills against BDS. Menke nailed three kills. Heikkinen contributed two digs. Biltoft, Mazour and Menke had one kill each. Heikkinen served up two aces. Mazour scored with an ace. Jorgensen had five digs. Epley took care of four digs. Heikkinen had three digs. Beard, Biltoft and Skinner had one dig each.

Epley tossed in seven kills against Deshler. Heikkinen came through with four kills. Biltoft and Mazour recorded three kills each. Menke added two kills. Beard and Troudt had one kill each. Jorgensen and mazour each scored with an ace. Heikkien was in with 12 digs. Jorgensen contributed nine digs. Epley put up eight digs. Mazour and Skinner lofted up three digs apiece. Beard, Mazour and Menke finished with one dig each.

Epley, Heikkinen and Menke accounted for six kills apiece against Franklin. Mazour anted up four kills. Biltoft edged in with three kills. Beard zeroed in with two kills. Troudt had a kill. Epley and Heikkinen air mailed through two aces apiece. Mazour sent through an ace. Jorgensen went for six digs. Heikkinen and Menke came through with four digs apiece. Epley contributed three digs. Beard, Biltoft, Mazour and Troudt added one dig each.

Lawrence-Nelson opens sub-district D-2 6 play Monday at a site to be determined. The Raiders will be looking to advance to district play. Other teams in the sub-district field are Franklin, Silver Lake and Wilcox-Hildreth. Sub-district play concludes Tuesday.
