Dane Miller (11) waits for his Superior teammates, including Ty Woerner (69), to provide blocking for his run against Hastings St. Cecilia Friday at Hastings.

The Superior High School football team lost a heartbreaker, 14-10, to Hastings St. Cecilia, at Duncan Field in Hastings, Friday. The loss brought the 2021 season to a close for the Wildcats. Superior finished the season with a 4-5 record.

It was the final game for 11-man football as well for at least two years. Paul Heusinkvelt, head coach and athletic director, stated the program would switch to 8-man play because of the declining number of student athletes who wish to play the game.

Hastings St. Cecilia scored their 14 points with a touchdown and successful conversion in the first and second quarters.

Christian Avalos put the Wildcats on the board with a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Superior played its best defense of the season over the third and fourth quarters. They stifled every Bluehawk scoring attempt. Unfortunately, they were unable to generate any offensive momentum. Superior scored a touchdown with 34.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. It was a little too late to score again.

Miller completed two of his 15 pass attempts for 22 yards. One pass was intercepted.

Jacob Meyer made two receptions for 22 yards.

Miller carried the ball 17 times to gain 69 yards. He scored one touchdown. Clayton Morris gained 23 yards with his 10 carries. Tyler Everhart rushed for 20 yards on seven carries. Meyer was thrown for an 11 yard loss on his sole carry.

Seth Schnakenberg nailed six solo tackles and three assisted tackles for the game. Morris stacked up five solo tackles and assisted with two others. Jordan Brown collected four solo tackles and two assists. Payton Christiancy recorded four solo tackles and assisted with one tackle. Anders Webber listed three solo tackles and two assisted tackles. Meyer made three solo tackles. Aaron Allgood checked out two solo tackles. Ty Woerner added three assisted tackles.
