Jewell City Council approves replacing library shelving

The Jewell City Council met Monday, Nov 1, at City Hall. Those in attendance were Darrell Bohnert, mayor; council members, Max Burks, Josh Burks, Bob Freeman, Gaye Daniels, Derek Birdsell and Kristie Anderson, city clerk.

Marsha Ericson, Jewell Library director, was present. Marsha talked about replacing the shelves on the west sid of the library. She also talked about anchoring the shelves to the wall. The council agreed to let the library staff anchor the new shelves to the west wall.

James Reed, code enforcement officer, was absent but provided a written report on the activities happening in town. Reed continues to work with property owners to abate nuisances.

Kristie Anderson presented the monthly clerk’s report. She updated the council on the community center and motel reservation schedule. Anderson said the city is receiving $181.41 from the ARPA COVID-19 Recovery Funding to the additional $30,493.03 the city has already received.


David Knappert presented the monthly maintenance report. Knappert reported he is working on repairing the streets. He said he is needing to do some repairs on the equipment.

In unfinished business, Mayor Bohnert talked about the finishing the reports for the grants on the Emerson Lake Cleanup project.

In other business, Anderson presented a domestic animal permit application for Gretchen Spitz. The domestic animal permit was approved.

Shelby Bohnert applied for a grant to replace the flooring in the Jewell Community Center.
