Ken Rempe will join Nuckolls Co. board

A Superior resident, Ken Rempe, is set to become Nuckolls County’s newest county commissioner. He was selected Monday evening to fill the county board vacancy left by the death of James (Pete) Keifer of rural Bostwick.

State law provided a panel composed of John Hodge, county attorney, Carrie Miller, county clerk, Vicki Ensign, county treasurer, would select someone from Keifer’s district to fill the vacancy.

Four people applied and were interviewed Monday by the panel. After about two hours of deliberation, Rempe was selected.

He is known all over the county and has previous government experience.

A native of the Lawrence area, he farmed for a time in the Lawrence area and was a member of a dairy board. After moving to Superior to accept a position as a city mail carrier, he was elected to the Superior City Council and served as a Superior Volunteer Fire Department officer. In addition to delivering mail, he also worked part-time with an electrician. Since retiring from the post office, he has served as manager of the Elk Creek Country Club at Nelson.

He is expected to be sworn in as a county commissioner prior to the board meeting on Monday, Dec. 6.

He is expected to complete Keifer’s term which will expire at the end of 2022.

Nuckolls County residents who are residents of the district and interested in running for the office will have an opportunity to file for the office in early 2022. The position will be included in the 2022 primary and general election.

He will join Tim Zikmund and David Mussmann on the county board.
