Thanksgiving . . .

As of late (the past 15 – 20 years) it seems there are people who consider Thanksgiving a holiday that should not be observed. Their contention seems to be we are celebrating the beginning of an era of bad treatment of the Native Americans for a couple of hundred years, and that isn’t right.

I would suggest those promoting this idea do not have a very good education in history. To me, it is a primary example of how the Liberals in America are using an injustice strung out over a great deal of time to further confuse and cause confusion and chaos in the population to further their cause.

As most of you know, the first “Thanksgiving” happened in the earliest days of European migration to America. They survived very tough times with the help of Native Americans. They wanted to celebrate their survival and give thanks to God for that survival. They did so by inviting Native Americans to an event of dining and prayers.

Over the years this intent changed to Thanksgiving being an event to thank God for the general blessings most Americans seemed to enjoy.

I will not argue a great number of injustice events did not happen to Native Americans over the next couple of hundred years, but they had nothing to do with the generally accepted idea of giving thanks to God for His blessings.

I would suggest this whole idea of not having Thanksgiving is just one more example of ‘Liberals’ connecting two things together (that really don’t belong together) to further their own agenda.

Giving thanks to God for his blessings doesn’t have a thing to do with the injustice that happened to the Native Americans.

Pumpkin Pie anyone ? ? ? (A story borrowed and appropriate for this time of the year.)

It seems a farmer was driving his tractor along the road with a trailer load of fertilizer. A boy saw the farmer and yelled: “What’s in your trailer?”

“Manure,” the farmer replied.

“What are you gonna do with it?”

“Put it on my pumpkins.”

“You should come eat with us. We put ice cream on our pumpkin pie.”

It’s a good year . . . already!

For quite a few years we usually received our first Christmas card the day after Thanksgiving.

This year . . . we received three the day after Thanksgiving. I can hardly wait to see what follows.

The older I get, the more medical terms I learn and most of them are not good for anyone. There are more “disorders,” “syndromes,” and sicknesses around then I ever thought about.

Just last week, I came across a new term: “Information Disorder Syndrome.”

I came across the term while reading an item from “The Aspen Institute,” whoever, or whatever they are. I looked for a definition and found the following:

“Many of us may be unknowingly suffering from information disorder syndrome. It is more prevalent because of the digitized world where the information flows to every individual’s phone, tablet and computer in no time. Information disorder syndrome is the sharing or developing of false information with or without the intent of harming and they are categorized as misinformation, disinformation and mal-information.”

It went on to break down the syndrome into three degrees, but I can’t get into all of that as I’m just trying to expose you to more general information.

In an apparent effort to inform people how they can escape from this disorder, The Aspen Institute offered the following in a quote from former president, Dwight Eisenhower. It went like this:

“Don’t join the book-burners. Don’t think you’re going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Don’t be afraid to go in your library and read every book.”

Sounds like that bit of advice is very close to my contention and advice concerning where and how a person obtains his information via news reports over the media.

I still strongly advise people to gather their news from more than once source. Even the national media that seems inclined to give only one side of a story at times can give some useful information.

Every individual has to decide how they obtain their information and what they do with it.

Now . . . I’m a great lover of the comic section in most newspapers. At times they are not immune from the political wars in society. I recently saw one issue that made a person stop and think. It went like this:

Frame 1: A person who seems to represent the liberal, educated, class is saying to another person obviously not in his “class:” “Fried chicken and beer, huh? A diet like that will take ten years off your life, you fool.”

Frame 2: In reply the other individual says: “If the purpose of your life is just to prolong your life, then maybe there’s not much life to prolong.”

Frame 3: The Liberal person is stymied for a reply and the other person says: “Good thing you have ten extra years to think of a comeback.”

The Liberal says: “You wait, its coming.”

TV and Radio are great and I use them often. However, don’t forget how to read. Newspapers and books offer so much more.
