Little Things . . .

So often they go un-noticed by so many folks. It makes sense because we humans can’t be everywhere to notice them.

I’m proud to see all the small towns across Nebraska that have put up Christmas decorations. They most all do it every year and everyone enjoys them.

We, in small towns, consider them a pretty big activity.

This year, in Lawrence, we are enjoying new lights after replacing time and weather worn lighting of the past. It is great.

However, there was a small addition this year that many people may have missed.

Last week someone added a pair of ‘stuffed” deer figures at the base of the colorful sign that stands on Main Street. A day or two later, greenery was added.

Small, and probably insignificant, but cute as could be.

Do you remember reading history battle stories? I’ve read reports thousands upon thousands were killed in single battles.

No little thing.

However, now, many, many years after those battles, few if anyone, will remember them.

December 7 is the day the battle of Pearl Harbor. The U. S. was dragged into WWII and the rest is history.

Are we slowly forgetting to honor those thousands killed or wounded that day? I hope not, but the day does not get the recognition it used to get.

Will the anniversary of the Muslim attack on the U. S., called 9-11, be forgotten? ? ?

Most likely it will be. It is only normal for us humans. We will have to have the events taught in our history classes in schools.

Family histories and prayers will help us remember events that have become “little things’ over the course of history.

Another “Not So Little Thing” in today’s society is the question of abortions.

For close to 50 years, the United States has been a leader in promoting and carrying out the killings of unborn human beings. Something I don’t see how anyone could be proud of.

The Liberals lied about the number of women who died from illegal (at that time) abortions and then thought they found out the U. S. Constitution really didn’t outlaw abortions and it was OK to kill unborn humans.

In the past week, the Supreme Court has started examining a new case brought to it that is looking at whether or not, abortions are really legal in the U. S.

The national media is going crazy over trying to predict the outcome of this case. They are saying the Supreme Court is split 6-3 with Conservatives having control and many expect the abortion question to be changed.

Of course, the national media is blaming Donald Trump for any expected change because he nominated three Supreme Court judges expected to vote to outlaw abortions, again.

I pray that the national media is correct in this instance. They tell us that it will not be until next Spring or Summer before the Supreme Court decision will be made.

It’s not a ‘little thing’, and I’m not sure of the outcome right now. I would certainly encourage all of you to pray for the just outcome of this Supreme Court decision.

I don’t think any usual political actions will influence the outcome of the judges. However, as we’ve learned in the past: ‘Prayer and Fasting’ are powerful tools and some evil is just so powerful that they can be defeated only with prayer and fasting.

This is no little thing.

Among all your ‘little things’ you do in preparation for the Christmas holy day, remember the original reason for the holidays.

One ‘little thing’ that happened in Lawrence last week was the Christmas Supper for members of the American Legion, The Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion.

It was not a “big” event. Only about 30 members and spouses were able to make the event. Kind of reminds us that “Veterans” are kind-of getting to be a vanishing breed.

However, it was an enjoyable evening of dining and social visiting to kick-off the holiday season.
