Jewell County family named Farm Family of the Year

Brent McCollough, a Jewell County farmer near Randall, is one of Kansas Farm Bureau's (KFB) Farm Family of the Year honorees. Each year, a select number of families receive the Farm Family of the Year award for their service and leadership in agriculture, Farm Bureau and their communities. This year there were 10 families.

McCollough operates a 2,000-acre farm in Jewell and Republic counties,

where he raises grain sorghum, corn and soybeans on mostly no-till farm ground. McCollough utilizes precision agriculture to efficiently run his farm, and he works with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to conserve and improve soil health and water quality. Some of the land McCollough farms has been with his family since his grandfather bought the farm in the 1930s. McCollough took over the farm in 2006 after eight

years working as a computer programmer.

McCollough is an active member of his community and is a USD 279 school board member and Kansas Farm Management Association board member.

Additionally, McCollough is a member of the Jewell United Methodist Church and Courtland Fermentation Club, and he is a Bike Across Kansas participant. He has been active on the Jewell County Farm Bureau board for 13 years serving in a variety of roles and has participated in Farm

Bureau events and committees on state and national levels.

Looking forward, McCollough supports KFB's efforts to represent farmers and ranchers, and believes advocacy is key to the success of Kansas agriculture.
