SHS boys basketball still looking for a win

The Superior boys basketball team is still searching for that elusive first win of the season. The Fairbury Jeffs handed the Wildcats 52-32 loss at Superior last Tuesday.

Superior played Wilber-Clatonia, at Wilber, Saturday, and came away with a 46-33 loss to remain winless.

Superior visited Blue Hill Tuesday for a game with the Bobcats. Game results were unavailable at press time.

Fairbury had little trouble holding Superior at bay, building a 32-21 halftime lead. The Jeffs held Superior to single digit scoring over the third and fourth quarters and departed with a 52-32 win.

Ashton Grassman, Jacob Meyer and Dane Miller were the top Superior scorers against Fairbury with eight points each. Tanner Theis kicked in four points. Taygun Rothchild and Seth Schnakenberg added two points apiece. Grassman jammed his way to eight rebounds. Schnakenberg picked off six rebounds. Miller acquired four rebounds. Theis landed two rebounds. Roscoe Baumbach, Luke Jameson and Theo Mathis accounted for a rebound each.


Schnakenberg dropped through nine points to lead the Superior offense against the Wolverines. Theis followed up with eight points. Miller put up six points. Grassman netted four points. Baumbach and Meyer collected three points each. Miller landed seven rebounds. Schnakenberg and Theis harvested four rebounds apiece. Grassman and Rothchild accounted for three rebound apiece. Baumbach and Meyer each snagged a rebound.

Superior hosts Southern Valley Friday. The Wildcats visit Utica, Saturday, for a game with Centennial.

The Runza Holiday tournament gets underway Tuesday and continues Monday, Dec. 27, and concludes Tuesday, Dec. 28. Schools competing in this year’s tournament are Central City, Bruning-Davenport-Shickley, Cozad, Mead, Milford and Superior.
