SHS boys basketball picks up first win

The Superior High School boys basketball team dropped an 82-48 game to Blue Hill at Blue Hill last Tuesday. The Wildcats earned their first win of the season when they downed the Southern Valley Eagles, 39-31, at Superior Friday. The Wildcats were not as fortunate when they were handed a 49-18 loss at the hands of the Centennial Broncos at Utica Saturday. Superior opened play in the Runza Holiday Tournament opening round game against Cross County at Superior Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.

Dane Miller has his eyes on the prize as he looks for two Superior points against Southern Valley at Superior Friday.

Superior stayed close to Centennial in the first quarter, trailing 13-10 at the end. Things went downhill after that. Centennial led 28-13 at the half. The Broncos held the Wildcats scoreless in the third quarter and cruised to a 49-18 win.

Superior scoring was led by Jacob Meyer, Dane Miller and Tanner Theis with nine points apiece against Southern Valley. Seth Schnakenberg hit for eight points. Roscoe Baumbach and Taygun Rothchild scored two points each.


Schnakenberg muscled his way to 18 rebounds for Superior. Miller jostled his way under the boards for 12 rebounds. Rothchild and Theis landed five rebounds each. Baumbach and Meyer finished the contest with four rebounds apiece.

Schnakenberg led the Superior offense against Centennial with six points. .Miller dropped through five points. Theis was good for three points. Baumbach scored two points.

The Runza Holiday tournament continues at Central City Monday and Tuesday with opponents to be determined.
