Lady Raiders go 1-2 in Basketball games last week

January 20, 2022

Katelyn Mazour appears to be all alone as she looks for a path to the basket in the Kenesaw game last week.

The L-N Lady Raiders picked up one victory in a busy week, defeating Rock Hills in the first game of the week. However, games against Kenesaw and Axtell were not as good. The game summaries:

L-N – ROCK HILLS: 54-35: Going for their 3rd victory of the year and 2nd win in a row, the L-N Lady Raiders had a little trouble getting started in this game as Rock Hills jumped out to a first period lead. However, once L-N got their feet solidly on the ground they never looked back. Score by period:

L-N 10 20 8 16 - 54

Rock Hills 14 3 10 8 - 35

The girls scored a season high number of points in this game as they hit a season high 51 percent of their field goals. That included 60 percent from the 3-pt. arc.

The Raider's defense also had a good game as they stole the ball 17 times and forced a total of 23 turnovers from Rock Hills.

(Scoring, rebounds, assists): Sydney Biltoft 5, 0, 0: Claire Himmelberg 0, 0, 1; Aleah Heikkinen 8, 5, 2; Emily Troudt 1, 3, 0; Elsa Jorgensen 11, 4, 2; Emma Epley 17, 5, 3; Katelyn Mazour 7, 0, 0; Kara Menke 5, 0, 0.

L-N: 54, 17, 8.

Rock Hills: 35, 20, 2.

Three points shots: L-N: 6-10: Sydney 1, Elsa 1, Emma 3, Katelyn 1; Rock Hills: 4-16.

Free Throws: L-N: 2-8: Emily 1, Kara 1; Rock Hills: 3-9.

Fouls: L-N: 13; Rock Hills: 11.

L-N – KENESAW: 32-48: After recording the two wins, the Lady Raiders took on one of the better teams in the area. The girls had a problem getting started, but played a good second half of the game, but still came up short. Score by quarter:

L-N 4 7 12 9 - 32

Kenesaw 10 15 10 13 - 48

Emily Epley led the team in scoring with 12 points and had 7 rebounds. Unofficial statistics:

Sydney Biltoft 1 pt. 1 Rb.; Aleah Heikkinen 4 pts. 6 Rbs.; Emily Troudt 1 pt. 1 Rb.; Elsa Jorgensen 3 pts. 0 Rbs.; Emily Epley 12 pts. 7 Rbs.; Katelyn Mazour 4 pts. 5 Rbs.; Kara Menke 6 pts. 8 Rbs.

Concentration . . . Emily Troudt seems determined in spite of what looks like a Kenesaw defender coming full bore to block her shot attempt.

L-N – AXTELL: 28-33: Five little points . . . from the time those first couple of field goal attempts bounced off the rim for the Lady Raiders, one had the feeling that maybe this was not going to be a good game.

The Lady Raiders had a tough time prying that lid off their basket throughout the game. The defense did well holding Axtell to only 33 points giving L-N the chance. Numerous times throughout the game they were just a basket away from pulling ahead. Score by quarter:

L-N 2 6 11 9 - 28

Axtell 5 9 9 10 - 33

Unofficial scoring for the game is: Sydney Biltoft 2 pts. 1 Rb.; Aleah Heikkinen 4 pts. 2 Rbs.; Emily Troudt 2 pts. 2 Rebs.; Elsa Jorgensen 5 pts. 3 Rbs.; Emily Epley 4 pts. 7 Rbs.; Katelyn Mazour 3 pts. 3 Rbs.; Kara Menke 5 pts. 7 Rbs.

Games this week include a Tuesday night game at Deshler; a Thursday game at Odell and a Friday game with Parkview Christian at York College. Next week Tuesday they travel to Blue Hill.
