Jewell County Commissioners approve patrol car bid

The Jewell County Commissioners met Jan. 10. Commissioners Steve Greene and Brent Beck were present. Houston Becker, deputy county clerk, was present for the meeting.

Steve Greene was appointed chairman of the board. Brent Beck was appointed vice chairman.

The Jewell County Record was designated as the official county newspaper.

It was approved that all banks in Jewell County be designated as official depositories.

Beck was reappointed as Jewell County’s representative for the juvenile justice authority-community corrections advisory board.

Greene was reappointed Jewell County’s representative for the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility.

Roe was reappointed Jewell County’s representative for the North Central Regional Planning Commission Board.

Resolution 22-01 pertaining to ROZ funding and Resolution 22-02 pertaining to Financial Statements and Financial Reports for 2022 were approved.


Per K.S.A. 19-204 the commissioners reviewed commission districts based on current population. It was determined to retain the current commission district as currently assigned.

Cindy Becker, health administrator, updated the commissioners on the status of the grant she has been working on. She said they were increasing the home health rates. The new rates are more consistent with the surrounding counties home health rates.

Carla Ost, RN, provided an update on COVID-19.

Shannon Meier, EMS director, had the December 2021 activity report and billing report for the Commissioners to review.


The commissioners approved writing off $10,102.69 for the fourth quarter of 2021 for EMS.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed equipment repairs.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, had quotes for a new patrol vehicle for the commissioners to review.

The commissioners approved the purchase of a 2021 Dodge Durango from Superior Emergency Response Vehicles with the installation and setup of equipment for a total cost of $44,533.90.

Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator, and Laura Leite, Cottonwood Consulting, discussed the distribution of the ARPA funding. Laura visited about grant rules and regulations and discussed how the county could use ARPA funds. Thecommissioners were reminded that April 1, is the deadline to request ARPA funds.
