Beef at School program feeds Lawrence-Nelson students

February 10, 2022

Throughout the year Robyn Menke (elementary cook) and Janie Corman (middle-high school cook), provide meals with locally raised beef two days a week for the students. The L-N Beef at School committee alternates between the elementary and middle-high school every month to educate students about beef and grill hamburgers for the students.

Another activity the beef donations provide is for the senior class to enjoy a special steak meal on their last day of school. The only request is for the senior class to carry forward a passion for the beef industry.

Each year it takes 10 to 12 beef donations to feed the elementary and middle-high school students. Beef donations do not have to be the top feedlot steer. Do you have an open cow or heifer? Those open animals would be a perfect fit for the program. The Beef at School program has producers who would feed out the donated animal if needed. Donations are always needed and are tax deductible. The students greatly appreciate the nutritious and delicious beef.

Please contact any of these committee members for more information and to set up donations: Brad Bargen (402) 469-4335, Joel Livgren (402) 984-5544, Alisha Ostdiek (402) 879-5075, Brooke Mazour (402) 984-4996, Ken Ostdiek (402) 984-6963, Amanda Ostdiek (402) 768-4161, Mike Wehrman (402) 314-1222, Dan Laughlin (402) 621-0198, or Laura Elledge (402) 984-6604.
