RHHS girls win two

The Rock Hills High School girls basketball team improved their season record to 9-8 with two wins over their past two games. The Grizzlies downed Natoma 40-28 at Natoma last Tuesday. They followed up with a 32-29 win over Lincoln at Lincoln.

Southern Cloud played Rock Hills at Mankato Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time.

Rock Hills strutted out to a 16-6 lead against Natoma after two quarters. Natoma put up a fight over the third and fourth quarters but was unable to close the gap. Lincoln led the Grizzlies 11-8 after the first quarter. Poor shooting and a torrid Rock Hills defense held Natoma scoreless during the second quarter while Rock Hill put up 11 points to take a 19-11 lead at the halfway mark. The Grizzlies added two points to their lead in the third quarter and entered the final period with a 27-17 lead. Lincoln kept nibbling away and closed the gap to four points. Unfortunately for them, time expired and the Grizzlies had win number nine for the season

Lauren Whelchel led the Grizzlies scoring charge against Natoma with 18 points. Avery Brown aided the cause with 11 points. Raylynn Anderes hit for six points. Danica Frost and Caitlyn Scarrow tallied two points each.

Whelchel hauled down nine rebounds. Scarrow nailed down six rebounds. Anderes and Frost contributed four rebounds each. Brown kicked in three rebounds. Selena Luong added two rebounds. Hannah Simmelink landed one rebound.

Whelchel again led the Grizzlies scoring when she dropped through 19 points against Lincoln. Frost netted 12 points. Scarrow was good for two points. Whelchel produced 11 rebounds. Frost grabbed seven rebounds. Anderes picked off six rebounds. Luong nabbed four rebounds. Scarrow made off with three rebounds. Brown and Frost hit the boards for two rebounds each.

Rock Hills plays host to Thunder Ridge at Mankato Friday. Osborne comes to Mankato, Tuesday, for the Grizzlies final regular season game before substate play begins.
