SHS and L-N girls basketball teams enter sub-district play

Members of the Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team form a student initiated prayer circle after each game.

It was the final game of the regular season for both the Superior High School Wildcats and the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders girls basketball teams when they met at Nelson, Friday.

Superior came away with a 51-35 win and county bragging rights.

Lawrence-Nelson fell, 57-34, to the Diller-Odell Griffins, at Odell, Thursday, in a game that was never close.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 23-15 lead after two quarters. Try as they might, the Raiders were unable to close the gap as time wound down.

Shayla Meyer led the Superior offense with 23 points against Lawrence-Nelson. She collected 20 rebounds for the game. Ella Gardner dropped through 13 points while grabbing one rebound. Sadie Cornell hit for five points. She snagged one rebound. Teegan Duncan put up three points and secured two rebounds. Halle Bargen, Emma Henderson and Laci Kirchhoff each scores two points. Bargen snared four rebounds while Henderson and Kirchhoff added two rebounds apiece for Superior. Neah McMeen hit a free throw for one point. Madison Heusinkvelt landed a rebound. Lilly Edwards held down a rebound.


Kara Menke led Lawrence-Nelson with 12 points against Superior. She picked off six rebounds. Elsa Jorgensen put up six points while producing six rebounds for the Raiders. Kylie Beard and Emma Epley registered four points apiece. Epley provided four rebounds with Beard adding two. Aleah Heikkinen put through three points. She hit the boards for seven rebounds. Sydney Biltoft and Claire Himmelberg netted two points apiece. Biltoft pulled away four rebounds with Himmelberg collecting three rebounds. Katelyn Mazour and Emily Troudt each scored one point with a free throw. Troudt nailed down three rebounds. Hannah Skinner ripped away two rebounds. Addi Mccloskey pulled down a rebound.


Both teams began sub-district play Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time.

Lawrence-Nelson faced off against Silver Lake at Roseland.

Superior took on Thayer Central at Sutton.

The sub-district final games are today (Thursday).
