I hope this doesn’t bore you, but as I’ve said before, the comic sections of the newspaper is one of my favorite parts. And, one of my favorite comic strips is “Shoe.” Many of the issues involve a newspaper reporter and his editor.

In a recent issue, the dialogue went like this: Shoe is busy writing his latest and in the first frame the editor is saying to himself: “Shoe is like a car alarm.”

In the second frame, the editor is seen replying: “Lots of noise, but no one pays attention to him.”

Even in our little corner of the world I can relate to that and thought of myself. A lot of what ‘Shoe’ passes on to the public involved politicians and this past week we’ve seen enough of political activity to satisfy everyone. Maybe I can make a little noise for everyone to ignore.

First off, many who degrade the men and women who do get involved in the public affairs of the community, state and nation should maybe give it all more thought.

“It’s as simple as ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, many say. That sounds simple enough, but things get complicated.

Let’s take the Nebraska Legislature for example and talk about marijuana. For some time medical ‘experts’ note the pain caused by some medical conditions can be relieved to some extent with smoking marijuana. That sounds good, but it ignores all the pain and suffering caused by marijuana use and drug addiction it often leads to.

A State Senator introduced a bill that had both supporters and opponents confused. As I understand it, the bill would allow smokeable marijuana but supporters note federal law prohibits the transportation of cannabis across statelines, but the bill doesn’t allow producers to grow the plant in-state, so dispensaries wouldn’t be able to obtain it.

Opponents don’t want to see the drug legalized in Nebraska, calling the push a slippery slope toward recreational use.

“Right or Wrong” or just more noise that nobody pays no attention to?

The “Fairness” doctrine the city of Lincoln is trying to pass says the city will not discriminate in hiring people because of gender identity. Not just ‘gender’ like in a man or woman.

Some, not many, but some people do not accept the simple fact that humans are born male or female. These few are trying to convince everyone else people can change who they are by simply saying they are male or female in spite of their birth gender.

What they call ‘Fairness’ flies in the face of what the world has lived by for thousands of years.

Right or Wrong? Or just noise no one pays attention to?

I’ve mentioned before the federal government has almost forced billions of dollars on the states for what it called “Pandemic Relief.” Well, Nebraska received its ‘share’ and many state senators are trying to determine where all that money would go.

I was surprised last weekend to read of one proposal. It was a nuclear reactor feasibility study.

I thought nuclear energy was a dirty word in this age of ‘political correctness.’ Maybe I was wrong.

At least one state senator wants to start a study on the possibility of increasing Nebraska’s nuclear power production. He would use only one million of all those pandemic dollars.

Right or Wrong? Or just more noise nobody pays attention to?

I think my final thought this week concerns the Russian war on Ukraine.

From what I’ve heard and read few Liberals or Conservatives, or anyone in between, do not condemn this action as “Wrong”.

I have my own thoughts as to why President Putin started his invasion of Ukraine. Many others have their own thoughts.

I’ve been praying for the success of Ukraine in defending themselves, but I’d like to extend the thoughts on this situation to political spheres in general.

In the United States there seems to be a recent ‘push’ by the “Liberal” political parties to implement more Socialistic policies and program into our national government.

I am amused by one thing that sort of came out in the reporting of the war and side information about the people involved. The news reported that the Russian president Putin is probably one of the richest and wealthiest people in the world with net-worth of something between $60 billion and $200 billion.

I am amused about this because when you consider Russia is one of the most ‘Socialistic’ countries in the world, and their leader is one of the richest people in the world, why are those supporting socialism in America condemning the rich capitalists in America who also happen to be rich.

In America the Liberals and Socialists think the income difference between the rich and poor should not as great as it is.

I don’t have figures to back up my impression, but I suspect the income differences between the rich and poor in Russia is even greater than it is here in America. I have tried to understand why the Liberals and Socialists want to implement policies to bring us down to the level of economic being the Communist world has been living in for the last one hundred years.

In addition think of what happens to those Russians who demonstrated against the Russian action this past week and what happened to the demonstrators in America in 2020 who protested against racial injustices.

In America, some paid a small fine, or none at all. In Russia the people might just go to jail for 20 years.

You see in a Socialistic State, the government has the last word and there is no room for debate or opposition to the State policies.

Pray for the people of Ukraine that their pain and suffering may end. Pray for the people of Russia that their leaders may come to understand how wrong their current action is.

“Right” or “Wrong”?

A couple of more items to think about this week:

From Will Rogers: “We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress.”

The cardiologist’s diet . . . “if it tastes good . . . spit it out.”
