Kalynn Meyer returns to track for UN-L

 


Kalynn Meyer, a 2020 Superior High School graduate, was a dominant student-athlete. She was a major force on the volleyball, girls basketball and track teams. She made an early commitment to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Meyer was a dominating figure in her high school track days. She holds the Superior High School records in both the discus throw and shot put.

She joined the UN-L Huskers volleyball team in 2020. She appeared in five matches in her freshman year. She saw limited playing time during her second season. She registered eight kills and eight blocks in six matches.

Meyer announced Monday she was leaving the UN-L volleyball team to concentrate solely on track and field.

She had previously indicated she would share time between the two programs. She has appeared in four indoor meets for the Huskers track and field team. She took first place honors at the Mark Collgan memorial track and field meet. She competed for the Huskers at the Big Ten Indoor Championships at Geneva, Ohio on Saturday.


Meyer was an Under Armour first team- All-American in volleyball. She was a two-time Lincoln Journal Star Girls Athlete of the Year.

Meyer was a three-time state high school discus champion as well as a two-time state shot put champion.

She holds the NSAA all-class state meet record holder for the discus throw at 176’8”. She set the record in 2019. She holds the state Class C meet record in the shot put.

Alex and Leah Meyer, Kalynn’s older sisters, both competed for the UN-L track and field program.,


Kalynn will throw the discus for UN-L when the outdoor season begins March 25.

Meyer has her sights set on the 2024 Olympic games.

“After a lot of consideration about my future goals and dreams, I have made the decision to switch my focus to track and field for the remainder of my collegiate career,” Meyer stated. “I want to thank the volleyball coaches, performance team members, and most importantly, my teammates for some of the best memories and experiences throughout the last two years. I also want to thank the track and field coaches and athletes for welcoming me as a part of their team. I was blessed with the opportunity to experience both sports, but I am very excited to pursue track and field for my final years as a Husker.”
