Nuckolls Co fair 2022

Planning is well underway for the 147th annual Nuckolls County Fair. As usual, the fair will be held on the county fairgrounds located on a hill south of Nelson.

With the number of COVID-19 cases declining, planners expect the fair will be a public event.

Fair related events will be spread over two weeks. The events begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5 with the companion animal and dog show. At 1:30 p.m., it is the clothing construction, style review and performing arts contest. The public show will be directly following. At 3 p.m., the culinary challenge and favorite food contests will be held.

Wednesday, July 6 - 6 p.m., is the NC-TC 4-H archery shoot at Hebron.

Thursday, July 7 - 5 to 8 p.m. will be the 4-H static exhibit check in. At 6 p.m. the bucket calf interviews will take place.

Friday, July 8 - 8 a.m. will be the static exhibit judging. Between 6 and 8 p.m. is the horse check-in.

Saturday, July 9 - 8 a.m., is the horse show.

Sunday, July 10 -Weigh-ins and ultrasound testing will take place. 8 to 10 a.m. - hogs; 9 to 11 a.m. beef; and 10 to 11 a.m. sheep. From 10 to 11 a.m., poultry and rabbits can be checked in.

At 1 p.m., is the ice cream contest. The NC-TC 4-H trap shoot will be at 3 p.m. at Nelson. The beef barbecue will start at 5 p.m. Sign up for the Kid’s Rodeo is at 4:30 p.m. with the rodeo at 6 p.m.

All horses must be on the 4-H grounds by 8 p.m., Sunday.

Monday, July 11 - 8 a.m. is the hog show. The sheep show begins at 1 p.m. The goat show will follow the sheep show. At 5 p.m. the chicken barbecue will begin. The rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 12 - 8 a.m. is the beef show. The rabbit show is at 1 p.m. The poultry show will follow the rabbit show. The 4-H pork barbecue begins at 5 p.m. Rodeo is at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 13, the large animal round robin will start at 8 a.m. The small animal round robin will follow one hour after the large animal round robin. Turtle races are at 2 p.m. The pedal tractor pull sign up is at 2:30 p.m. with the event starting at 3 p.m. Static exhibits will be released at noon. In the evening the awards night begins at 5 p.m. The livestock will be released following the awards ceremony.

Thursday, July 14 is clean up and pay out at 6 p.m.
