Board delays decision on comprehensive plan

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met Monday at the county courthouse in Nelson. All three commissioners were present.

Cindy Buescher, road department executive secretary, and Jim Bolte, department foreman, addressed the board. One the department’s shredders expelled a piece of wood which broke the window of a SUV parked by a field. The operator had raised the shredder to pass the vehicle. When he lowered it, a fragment of wood was ejected, causing the damage. The board approved payment for repairs to the vehicle. The board approved ordering a road grader maintainer in the upcoming fiscal year to lock in a state contract price. The move will save the county more than $35,000. The board approved gravel bids from Deweese Sand and Gravel as well as Beatrice Sand and Gravel.

The board tabled a proposal by Five Rule Planning for a county comprehensive plan.

Ron Fryda and Jerred Fullerton presented the board with a proposal to perform services formerly provided by the United States Department of Agriculture. They would provide their expertise in answering calls about predator or nuisance animals within the county.

Brad Frey tendered his resignation from the sheriffs’ department effective April 1.

Work on the storm shelter at the sheriff’s office was reported to be near completion.

The board will hold their next meeting at 8:30 a.m., Monday, April 4.
