Superior restaurant cook dies in Guide Rock crash

A 23-year-old Superior man died last Wednesday in a head-on vehicle crash about 7 miles north of Guide Rock.

Juan Perez reportedly was driver of a southbound passenger vehicle which collided with a northbound semi-trailer truck on Highway 78 about 5:30 p.m.

Perez was pronounced dead at the accident location. The driver of the truck was not injured.

An employee of the Las Canteras restaurant, he reportedly was returning from a kidney dialysis treatment in Hastings and may have suffered a medical problem prior to the accident.

A fund to assist with his funeral expenses has been established at the Horizon Bank.

Juan Tadeo Perez was the son of Pascual Tadeo Jose and Micaela Perez Bartolo. He was born Sept. 6, 1998 in Nenton Aldea La Esperancita, Guatemala. His body is being returned to Guatemala for burial.

His mother died eight months ago and he was serving as the guardian for a younger sister attending Superior High School.
