L-N track opens season at Doane Invite

Katelyn Mazour and Elsa Jorgensen, both members of the Lawrence -Nelson High School track team, race toward the finish line at the Doane University Invitational indoor track meet at Crete Thursday. Jorgensen finished in third place while Mazour took seventh place.

The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders girls and boys track and field teams opened their 2022 season at the Doane University Indoor Invitational Track Meet at Crete last Tuesday. The team competed in the Class D bracket.

The Sutton Invitational, scheduled for Tuesday, was cancelled because of inclement weather.

The boys team finished in fourth place, with 36 points, in the 11 team field. Other schools competing at the event were Kenesaw, Shelton, Fullerton, Nebraska Lutheran, Mead, Dorchester, Exeter-Milligan, Neligh-Oakdale, Heartland Christian and Iowa School for the Deaf.

The girls team finished in fifth place, with 50 points, in the 11 team field. Other teams competing were Kenesaw, Shelton, Fullerton, Nebraska Lutheran, Mead,Dorchester, Exeter-Milligan, Neligh-Oakdale and Heartland Christian and Iowa School for the Deaf.

Sydney Biltoft took first place in the girls 60 meter hurdles with her time of 11.04 seconds.


Elsa Jorgensen finished third in the 60 yard dash with her time of 8.9 seconds. Katelyn Mazour took seventh place with her time of 9.11 seconds.

Biltoft earned the fifth place points in the 400 meter dash with her time of 1:12.03. Aleah Heikkinen picked up eighth place with the time of 1:14.44.

Emily Troudt competed in the 800 meter run with a time of 3:11.6.

Mazour was awarded sixth place points in the 200 meter dash with her time of 31.21 seconds. Brook Combs finished her sprint in 37.24 seconds.

Troudt competed in the 1600 meter run with a time of 7:25.08.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team earned fifth place points with the team time of 4:56.78.


Biltoft scored another first place finish with her bar clearing high jump of 4'6".

Jorgensen took home third place in the long jump with her leap of 15'5.75". Combs competed in the event.

Kylie Beard finished second in the shot put with her toss of 30'6".

Heikkinen picked up the sixth place points in the discus with her throw of 83.1". Beard was in eighth place with her throw of 78'.

Erik Wheeland posted a time of eight seconds in the boys 60 yard dash for a 10th place finish. Devyn Zikmund was in 14th place with the time of 8.04 seconds. Rocky Miller recorded a time of nine seconds.

Tyson Kotinek earned the eighth place point in the 400 meter dash with the time of 1:02.28.

Nolan Ostdiek placed second in the 800 meter run with the time of 2:23.84.


Wheeland was in 14th place in the 200 meter dash with the time of 27.62.

Logan Menke topped the field in the 1600 meter run with the time of 5:20.33.

Syndey Biltoft finished in first place in the 60 meter hurdles for Lawrence-Nelson at the first track meet of the season at the Doane University Invitational at Crete Thursday.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team took fifth place with the time of 4:12.14.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team held second place with the time of 9:33.13.

Zikmund covered 16'3.25 in his long jump appearance.

Kotinek landed sixth place points in the triple jump with a distance of 36'9". Carter Griffis posted a distance of 34'7'75".

Keaton Mazour held sixth place in the shot put with a heave of 34'5". sawyer Cox had a toss of 31'5".

Wheeland secured fourth place in the discus with a throw of 106'7". Mazour was in seventh place with his throw of 89'2".


The Raiders travel to Kenesaw, Tuesday for the Kenesaw Invitational.
