A two vehicle head on collision near the S curve between Hardy and Superior occurred Thursday morning on icy roads. Logan Roberts, 14, died of injuries sustained in accident. His brother, Austin, faces a long recovery as does Lovanda Sloan. The accident happened during the morning "rush" to school and work. The Superior and Hardy communities were in shock Thursday after learning of a head-on two-car crash which took the life of a Superior Middle School student, Logan Roberts, 14, an eighth grader, and left two others hospitalized.

A late season snow storm had left overnight perhaps as much as an inch of snow and 8 hundreths or so of moisture. For the most part walks and streets appeared to be dry but there were some very slick spots.

As word of the accident reached the sheriff's office dispatch center at Nelson, the calls for assistance from the Hardy, Superior and Nelson fire departments rightfully so contained a warning to the responders. "Be careful. The highways are very slick."

As the victims were being transported to the Brodstone hospital, helicopters were summoned to move the injured on to larger hospitals in Kearney and Lincoln.

The accident happened 5.5 miles east of Superior on Highway 8.

A preliminary investigation indicated a 2016 Chevrolet Impala driven by Lavonna Sloane, 64, was east bound as a 2001 west bound Buick driven by Austin Roberts, 17, was attempting to pass another vehicle or vehicles.

The Roberts boys, Logan and Austin, were headed from their home at Hardy to school in Superior and Mrs. Sloane was thought to have been travelling from Superior to work in Hebron.

The accident happened about 7:40 Thursday morning.

Mrs. Sloane, who remains hospitalized in Lincoln, is to observe her 65th birthday on Saturday.

Friends and family supporters have launched various endeavors to raise money to help the families affected by the accident with associated expenses.
