The Elk Creek Country Club opened in the late 1960s, while the building that serves as the clubhouse was built in 1950. Ken Rempe has served as the head of maintenance, groundskeeper and golf pro for the country club since his retirement from the post office in 2009. Until two years ago, he took care of the clubhouse as well as the mowing, watering and upkeep of the course. Nowadays, unless he is golfing, he sticks to the clubhouse. He dreamt of the day the clubhouse got a facelift and convinced the board that a new building was just what the course needed about six months ago.

The current clubhouse is approximately 936 square feet and is in need of improvements in the bar, kitchen, bathrooms and wrap-around patio on the east and south sides. The new structure will be approximately 2,400 square feet with an eight foot overhang on the south side. Handicap-accessible restrooms will be available through doors from both the outside and inside. The open space will allow room for a bar, pool table and ample seating for events along with an office and storage room.

The new space will provide plenty of area for party rentals and special events. They do not plan to have a kitchen separate from the common area but instead include kitchen appliances and multiple outlets along the north side. The plan is to eventually have the bar area open full-time on Sundays and Mondays. Members will be able to access the clubhouse via keycode though out the rest of the week. Wifi will also be available, permitting the club to accept payment via credit and debit card.

Decker Brown, Elk Creek Country Club president, said the board is currently planning an informative meeting for the public to discuss the plans for the new building. Donations are being accepted to help offset the costs of the structure. Contractors will begin demolition of the current clubhouse at the end of the golfing season in September, and hope to have the new structure's exterior erected by October.

The board has added a tournament to this year's schedule on June 4. The proceeds from this will help with the construction of the new clubhouse and raise funds for the course's upkeep and future improvements.

At this time, the board does not intend to raise membership fees. The Elk Creek Country Club membership is $200 for a family and $150 for an individual. Cart rentals are available at $10 per person. If you would like to store your cart and clubs at the course, shed rentals are $150 for electric carts and $125 for gasoline. If you are not looking to become a member but to enjoy a day on the course, the cost is only $10 per person per day.
